OVISO was constituted
like a Co-operative of Second Degree on May 4, 1999 in Castuera
and it is made up from the following members: ‘Asociación
de Lanares de la Serena S. L.’ of Cabeza del Buey (ALANSER),
‘Sociedad Cooperativa Limitada Agrícola Ganadera’
of Castuera and ‘Fomento del Ovino Extremeño S.A.T’
of Villanueva de la Serena (FOVEX), thus forming the greater group
of production and commercialisation of ovine in Extremadura, with
350,000 breeding ewes.
At the beginning of 1999, on the grounds of a project conceived
by different sectors for a long period of time, OVISO considers
that its aim is to be present in the fresh meat market, offering
a direct process from producer to retail outlets, which would
guarantee a homogeneous product, meeting all safety regulations,
its continuity throughout the year, with the well-known quality
hallmark in the national and international markets, as it is the
lamb of Extremadura.
